Binge Eating Disorder is recurrent episodes of binge eating accompanied by the lack of control to quit. It is not failed willpower. Shame is not a sustainable motivator.
A person with BED may: -eat frantically -eat until uncomfortable -eat when not hungry -have extreme stress or guilt about the episode The causes my be genetic, epigenetic, neurological or learned. In most cases, it serves the purpose of emotional regulation. Symptom control and recovery are not the same thing. In order to recover you must discover the why, address it, and heal from the trigger. BED requires support from a qualified professional. If you are dealing with this or another eating disorder, do not remain hidden or alone. Seek help.
