Mindset MondayBig food companies spend a lot of money to formulate addictive food. In the 1980's the average American consumed 40 lbs of sugar a year. When the low fat craze hit our country, sugar consumption increased dramatically. We now consume, on average, 152 lbs of sugar per person each year. Consider the following health foods: low fat yogurt, spaghetti sauce and orange juice. These all have an incredible amount of added sugar. Mice have shown a preference to sugar over cocaine! It's no wonder as we fall prey to commercial foods, our self control seems to decrease and our weight increase.
If counting calories were the solution, we would have succeeded as most people have the desire to eat well and feel well. So, how do we fight this issue? We eat real food. Food that does not come with a nutrition label, commercial packaging or a calorie count.
